A figurine from Royal Doulton in the 'Sea Characters' series modelled by Mary Nicoll. This is HN 2260 'The Captain', who stands leaning on a plinth that has his charts and with telescope in hand. He wears the captain's uniform with good detailing. Mary Nicoll lived in Devon and took inspiration from the characters around her. She worked as Royal Doulton's leading figurine designer from 1954 until her sudden death in 1974. Impressive figurine at 9 1/2 inches (24.1cm).
