Reluctant sale of this very moving piece by John Maltby - an Angel bearing gifts. This figurine is 25cm tall by 11.5cm wide and 8x6cm at the base. It is all stoneware with charcoal glaze over the figure with details in relief and incision. It has an M impressed mark to the rear of the base. As far as I can discern, there are no cracks or chips on this piece. The base of one wing lacks glaze, but I think this was just part of the manufacturing process as it would be tricky to reach in no way detracts from the display. My understanding is that John used Angels in his work following a period in hospital, and when asked ‘why Angels’ replied that if others had experienced such adverse health, they’d also depict/talk about them! Any questions about this item, please do ask.
