Beautiful wall mask of the Bamberg Horseman. The Bamberg Horseman (Der Bamberger Reiter) is an early 13th-century stone equestrian statue by an anonymous medieval sculptor in the cathedral of Bamberg, Germany. It is the first of this kind since antiquity. Made from matte glazed terracotta, this is a 1950's mid century reproduction wall mask / plaque of the face of the horseman. Marked on back Wormser Terra sigillata (medieval pottery) and numbered 710 (with an additional unknown star mark). Measures approx. 4½" wide x 8½" long. In excellent condition.
