This is a vintage Crown Ducal (AG Richardson) charger plate designed by English ceramicist Charlotte Rhead in 1939. It is a tubelined work in the Ankara design, model number 5987. I believe this piece was produced while Rhead was still working for Crown Ducal from the design of the back stamp (which I believe is AGR2). This would place this piece between 1939-1942. The charger is signed Rhead, but this was normally done by the tubeliner who worked on the plate rather than Rhead herself. The plate is in great condition without chips, cracks or crazing and measures 32cm in diameter. It is designed to be wall hung and has hanging holes to the rear. A stunning piece of pottery from one of Britain’s most important 20th century ceramicists.
