Vintage Beswick pair comprising a Cantering Shire Horse and Shire Foal, both in brown gloss finish. In very good condition. Both ornaments have the oval “Beswick England” backstamp on their underbellies. The pieces do not have model numbers marked on them, which, along with their style of backstamp, is consistent with earlier Beswick production around the late 1940s - early 1950s. The Cantering Shire Horse was subsequently identified as Model No. 975, and the Shire Foal as Model No. 1053. Designed by renowned Beswick modeller Arthur Gredington.
