This impressively large piece (16 cm high, 35 cm wide, and 16 cm deep) depicts a crouching male lion, captured in the act of yawning or roaring. From a philological and historical perspective, the work is the celebrated sculpture designated model number 1268, originally modeled in 1911 by the renowned Danish animal sculptor Lauritz Jensen (1859–1933).
