measuring 23cm in diameter is this outstanding Doulton Burslem decorative plate painted by Charles Labarre dating to circa 1891. The Frenchman Charles Labarre was employed by Slater from 1891 to work at Burslem for around a year on special vases intended for the World's Columbian Exposition. Labarre was especially recognised for his paintings of cupids and classical figures in the Sevres style Charles also worked for the Sevres factory. the plate is painted with adorable cherubs fishing (they have even caught a fish) and is signed ch LABARRE lower left. beautiful raised gilt edging finishes off this quality piece.
