The glazing on the base has a thicker golden hue, typical of early work from the factory – later pieces were more translucent when glazing was applied more evenly. It also has not been signed by Lorna or inscribed ‘Chetwynd’, but has the Old Ellgreave back-stamp on the base – this is also an indication of this vase being an early piece, when the back-stamp was the only identifier.
