Four early St.Ives stoneware tiles, Bernard Leach Pottery. c.1920's.

£76.62

Four early stoneware tiles from Bernard Leach's pottery at St.Ives, c.1920's. These hand-cut tiles were made before a tile cutting machine was used at St.Ives. The earliest tiles did not have the St.Ives seal on the reverse. These tiles are from a fireplace which was removed from a house in St.Ives. They have the remains of the bonding material on the backs and sides ( probably cement ). Please examine the photos for the condition. I have not tried to remove the cement. Sizes vary slightly, each c. 9.4 cm square. Good examples of the early St.Ives experimental tiles and glazes.
