The surface is richly glazed with a soft amber-to-cream tone, and the two bridled horses are presented in molded relief — a rare technique among Nippon ashtrays. Marked on the base with the green M-in-wreath “Hand Painted Nippon” stamp, indicating production by Morimura Brothers in Japan, circa 1911–1921.
